Mini Coupe – a 53 Years Revolution...

When we met the Mini Coupe for the first time on the open road, we are very scared. Three of them drove in convoy through the city, and they all looked as if someone had beaten them with a fist on the roof. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in 95 prent of car lovers will think something else about a harmonious Coupé.

The Mini Coupe is the fifth variant of Mini after the original Mini, Clubman, Convertible and Countryman. The original model is one of the few cars that survived since 1959.

The Roadster comes later this year on the market. In Geneva at the Motor Show in March will show a mini cargo, but this is no more than a Clubman with no windows.

The Mini Coupe is certainly an interesting car compared to the original version; the only drawbacks are the form side of the lack of rear seats and poor visibility.

The Mini Coupe’s Dashboard

The dashboard is the same as in the other models. It is not offering playfulness, it feels like being in a traveling jukebox (audio system with stereo speaker system of Hamann / Kardon for € 1730 extra charge), and the centrally located main speedometer in the car history is just a cramp. Not even the speed can be read properly, so that the eye is always on the digital speed display, or must fall. Which is integrated in the tachometer, the individual is beautiful in sight, that is, where tools belong.

Fiddly to use, are also the buttons below the speedometer. Here and not in the doors, the switches are located for the power windows. But maybe we are just a kids' twenty years too old, the sons (12 and 17 years) found the car easy to tip.

You can not complain about the two seats, they are comfortable and have proven themselves over long distances, the steering wheel feels good in your hand, the rights fall by itself on the shifter.

The Mini Coupe’s Engine

An automatic engine is not available in the top model, but in the other three engine variants (Cooper, Cooper S and Cooper Diesel). The gasoline engines pick from the same humble capacity of 90 or 1 135 kW (122/183 hp). The diesel is 2.0 liters and has 105 kW (143 hp). In JCW there may be 155 kW (211 hp), which are sent to the front wheels.

They come as almost always on. Nothing more than jagged, edged, just typical Mini ride we had expected, and expectations are not disappointed. In the deep squat coupé it's probably still a bit too crispy as in a "conventional" Mini.

The steering is accurate and helps to eat normal turns. It is amazing what they have done on the chassis.

Only those who violated the laws of physics completely, the Mini Coupe will be able to throw off course. On the train there even after brutal hard braking, and amazed the driver, as the braking distance is relatively short. Also, multiple delays can not tire the brakes.

With the driving pleasure of course carries the six-speed gearbox, which can be switched easily. The aisles are close together, so that there is any requirement for the correct translation.

In other words, it plays little role in what gear you press on the gas, is always strongly accelerated: For example, the acceleration values for our test of 50 to 100 km / h in the big gears (4./5./6. ) separated by only a few seconds. The speed of the Mini Coupe is 240 km / h, which we could not verify due to winter tires mounted.

Thanks to the sixth gear, the speed level is not too high, at 140 speedometer located at 3500 revolutions, the rev limiter intervenes at 6500 rpm.

Price

And of course it is not a cheap vehicle; our test car was € 5860. A navigation system will cost a relatively modest € 740. Fortunately, the speedometer is so big that you can show the card within its Runds.
